    Can I get EIN ?
    Hi,

I am planning to start a small business in US by next year. I am here on H1B and working on monthely salary. Can I have EIN # for me? What are the minimum requirement to get a EIN? What documents I need to get EIN #?
IRS provides a facility to get EIN on line.

Suppose I get a EIN No, Is it necessary for me to start a small business later on? Or not?

I have my ss#. EIN is for buiness purpose buy still I am curious to know How EIN is different from SS#? Why SS# can't be use as EIN?

    Help

    Thanks

EIN# is like the business' SS#. All profits/wages/ect by the company will be under the EIN#. This way the IRS can track the company's earnings, losses, etc.

If you are self-employed, you use your SS#.

Agreed. EIN is needed only if you have employees.

Also note that it would be against the visa requirements if you started working somewhere other than your sponsor.
