Miff deficiency judgement
I filed my income tax this year and it was taken by CMHC who apparently has a lien against me for a house I borrowed on about 5 years. What will happen next. Will I have my pitiful wages garnished and my bank account seized, or what should I do. There is no way I can pay anything or pay it off. Please help. Thank you.

If it was foreclosed on was it sold at auction or did the lender take ownership?
In any case you still owe the unpaid balance of the loan. So yes they can garnish your wages and bank account. You might want to consider bankruptcy.

Yes your answer helped, thank you. I guess bankruptsy is my only answer. Just fighting my way out of an almost 5 year depression and alcohol abuse (have been sober for just over a year), and don't have a lot of fight left. Not looking for sympathy or pity, just stating a fact. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

In the meantime, I might close any bank accounts or make sure you never keep a balance.

I get direct deposit from work so it would be hard. I don't even know how much I owe them, haven't been notified. I am going to contact CMHC to find out tomorrow. Really would like to face this head-on, just not up for a fight. Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated

Do not talk to a collection agency about this ever. Don't let anyone associated with this debt know where you work. If they are taking your income tax returns, then consider talking to your payroll department and request that they take the minimum allowable income tax off your paycheck (they will have a form for you to sign). This way revenue canada will not be able to give them any substantial amount of money. Consider getting a legal aid certificate and talking to a real estate lawyer , civil law lawyer first.
