    3 Way Switch Issues
    Hello,

I've been struggling with the logic on the linked schematic for some time. I have two open electrical boxes (switches removed by Bank prior to my purchase of the house) with a 3 way switch run (with a traveller) between them. I also have two separate light circuits, as well as an outlet (preferrably always on) and a mystery wire.

The Power is provided to an octagon box with a light and outlet wire. There is a standard wire back to a double box. The double box has 3 'cables' total. 1. The feed from the octagon box. 2 . The feed to the potlight system (power provided through this box - somehow... ) 3. The three way wiring cable to the single box.

The single box has 2 Cables. 1. The aforementioned three way switch and 2. a mystery cable to nowhere (unpowered).

The three way switches are for the pot lights, and there should be a secondary switch for the octagon light ideally.

Any idea how I should go about wiring ? - The schematic for the current setup is attached. All wires are shown with qty existing (grounds removed for clarity)

You have to first determine what the unknown cable in the single gang switch box is.

Next what kind of fixture is at the octagonal box, is it a pull chain type bulb holder?

If the fixture at the octagonal box is not a pull chain bulb holder then the cable between it and the 2 gang switch box is a switch loop and the unknown cable to the single gang switch box is a power source.

    Thanks!

The current light is a Pull Chain type bulb holder, however, it is designed to be a Kitchen Chandelier area (overtop of Kitchen Table Area). Short of pulling down the ceiling I'm unable to find out where the other cable goes to (no power at all to it, and no disconnected cables at the panel.

I don't suppose there is a way to have power go to double box, switch octagon light from double box and have power translate to 3 way switch with 'unknown cable' marred together in a disconnected state?

I get the impression that the current fixture is a bulb holder with a pull chain that was installed as a temporary measure. I can't imagine a present day kitchen table chandelier being designed to function on a pull chain alone.

Of course neither can I imagine someone stealing the switches out of a foreclosed home. My assumptions here. Not worth the effort it takes to steal them.

Temporarily connect a light or lamp to the "unknown cable". Then start pulling other light fixtures and outlets, looking for unconnected wires. I'd start any other kitchen light fixtures. Should find an unconnected cable or one not properly connected. If someone stole the table chandelier, they probably stole the kitchen ceiling light also. Replacement probably not properly correctly.

Thanks. Actually - the Cleanup / Maintenance service removed them. The lights worked when we were inspecting the house, but no switches when we moved in.
