What would be the difference of custody and adoption?
My friend gave up her son to his Grandma when he was a week old. Now the Grandma is trying to get child support from her? Does she have to because he was not adopted by the Grandma?

Yes, she is responsible for child support. If adoption occurred she would NOT be responsible.

Generally, what J_9 said. But how did she "give up her son to" the grandmother?
