    My heat pump quit heating
Can it be a result of "no freon". Was told new unit required sue to loss of freon.. unit will not heat.

There is no reason a new unit should need refrigerant (freon). Usually it is added only if there has been a repair done and a new unit should not need any repairs.

I believe he stated a new unit was needed due to loss of Freon (in the old unit)
The answer is yes, you will get no heat without Freon. It seems strange because you typically relate Freon and AC, BUT, a heat pump is basically an AC running in reverse.
