    Prong Collar
I have a friend who has gotten into a method of training that I do not approve of.
I think that the prong is a mean and harmful way to teach the dog to do things and she will not listen because she thinks her way is best.
I know this has nothing to do with dogs or sick dogs. I need help in wondering if prongs are abusive. I saw her dog and he is like a robot. It doesn't get praised when it does the best trick for the first time ever and all she does is say "okay"
Am I right labman in thinking this?
    Thanks,

Yes, I have to agree. I don't like the prong collar, but have not found good, objective data to document their problems. I have heard that if not properly fit, the prongs can actually puncture the dogs aorta. I have nothing to prove that except some anecdotes.

Failing to praise the dog is at odds with current methods. Although 15 years ago, I remember being taught not to use treats, there was always strong emphasis on praise. Praise and treats are now very important in the critical training of dog guides and other service dogs.

I think your friend needs to do some reading. A good place to start is the list of recommended books at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post251804
