Getting divorce from a newspaper ad
I had divorced from an ad in a newspaper about 20 years ago, and I do not remember the lawyer that divorced me. I need a copy of my divorce creed but cannot remember the ad.

Where did you get the idea you were divorced from a newspaper ad? While an ad may be used to serve your spouse notice, a divorce is a legal action and requires a court to issue the divorce decree.

Therefore, you should be able to go to the court where you lived and obtain a copy of the divorce decree.

I think she means she found her lawyer in a newspaper ad.
Look on your state website (yourstate.gov) to see if there's a section for divorce records.
    It's 'decree.'

You do not get a divorce from a newspaper ad.

You may hire an attorney from a newspaper ad
You may post a publication for divorce

But the record of your divorce will, if in the US, be at the court house where you got the divorce. Merely contact that court for a copy.

Also many states have records available from a state office

When I got divorced, I was required to put an ad in the paper stating that I was no longer responsible for any debts incurred by her... but that was only one step and did not make the divorce final.

The court was what made everything final.
