Are we talking Aerosmith or Joe and his one man band?

Everything depends on what the band requires for their equipment.

Isn't quite that easy. Power of Amplifiers, load banks for lights? Rough guess -couple of 20 amp breakers and 12/2 wire.

... we were a 4-piece, two guitars, bass, drums with a mixing board, speakers, etc. for a small bar size performance we never needed more than one 20 amp, 120 volt circuit...
So as ma0641 says, 12/2 wire and twenty amp breaker...

What you need to do is either, document all your equipment loads... or set the whole band up (before the party) and try plugging in to one 20 amp circuit... if the breaker trips then plug into two.
Sometimes the hit and miss method can be fun!
