    Internet Explorer 6 (VM) java!?
    Hi

I have a problem with my Explorer browser.
Recently my computer was infected by a virus called win32.Mydoo.hllm.

I managed to get rid of it but since than my internet explorer doesn't upload correctly any java applets that are in websites.
And its immpossible to browse like this.
It can't even upload the "windows update" page.
I tried reinstalling the explorer but it didn't help.
All the java options in my eplorer settings are checked (including the JIT)
And when I go to Sun's page for testing the java applets I get the following errror in my java console :

    Netscape.javascript.JSException: Failure to evaluate doDisplay('1.5.0_02','Sun Microsystems Inc.','Windows XP','5.1')
    at sun.plugin.javascript.ocx.JSObject.eval(Unknown Source)
    at JavaCallJS.init(JavaCallJS.java:22)
    at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Can someone please help me in this matter...

    Thanks in advance

IE Repair or Reinstall Sun Java
Try repairing IE & reset all Internet Settings to default options. Check if the changes fix the problem. If not, try & reload Sun Java. Check results. Finally, restore the PC to a time BEFORE the problem occurred.

Wow, I am so glad I came across this thread... I have been having the Same problem with IE and I haven't been able to figure it out. I reinstalled Java and Internet Explorer, but it just does not seem to make a difference. I received a virus that since then has caused this to happen. I have been unable to rid of the virus even with antivirus programs.

I just started using Firefox instead and I have absolutely no problem at all, but I still have to get IE working correctly again.

What Java version/type did you download and install Wzartv? Was it the JDK or the JRE?

Matan, try reinstalling the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) from: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp . See if that helps.

All I know is that I downloaded Java Virtual Machine from the same link you provided above. Was there something different I should have downloaded? Thanks for your help.

Nope. Sounds like you downloaded the right thing - the JRE. Java also do a Java JDK with stands for Java Development Kit. You only want that when you are developing Java programs.

Well, like I said before, I am STILL infected with the virus (something like the Bagel Virus or whatever) so perhaps that is restricting it from working correctly. I have tried using antivirus programs, and they say that the virus has been removed, but it always reappears whenever the computer is restarted. Thankfully, the virus has not affected much of anything else. I can't figure out how to get rid of it! Any suggestions?

    Virus Removal
    WZ,

Have you considered running cwshedder/HiijackThis to determine the culprit(s)? How about Msconfig? I suspect the lil' bugger is getting loaded via your registry...

No, I will have to try those. If I remember correctly, it is in a w2host.exe file or something like that, which is in the startup in the registry. I will try those and let you know what happens. Thanks very much for the help.

    WZ,

Sorry, I am not familiar with w2host.exe... If possible, please verify this is the file. Also, if you are comfortable & familiar with the registry, you can do a search for the suspect file.

I don't quite remember what the file infected was, as I have not had any working antivirus software for some time now. It might be wshost.exe or something like that, I tried looking it up but was unsuccessful.

I can't run any antivirus software, nothing installs correctly, I can't run any free scans off the Internet because they require IE and Java, which does not work correctly on my computer, and any site I try to access that has to do with antivirus (McAfee, Norton, Microsoft) conveniently will not load or even connect.

    Sounds like Spyware to Me...
Try to dload avast a/v from avast.com and try to run a full scan. Alternately, run a full a/v & spyware scan @ housecall.trendmicro.com. I don't recall if java or activex is req'd.. If no-go w/IE, try running the trendmicro url from MyComputer's address bar - although, it uses common dlls, this is not IE.

If you can not get any "browser" to work, let me know & I can show you where/how to ftp what you need from DOS... Auh, you can get to DOS, yes?

BTW, are you having these problems in safe mode?

I do regularly use Spybot and Adaware to scan the system for any spyware or adware. I do use Firefox browser which does not seem to have any problems with Java, but of course when accessing anything important like Microsoft or Norton or whatever, it will not load either. I have not tried in Safe Mode, but that is a great idea...
I know the older systems, but I have not worked XP that much in depth, so how do I get in to Safe Mode? Do you know which "F number" Button it is? Thanks again for all your help.

    Ditto
    Matan,

Since they all are applicable to your problem, try all the items previously mentioned...

    Good Luck. P2E

    F8 same as before...

Surprise, surprise... Java (MS competitor) commonly has problems with Windows security settings. As previously mentioned for Matan, try resetting your connections. If you are still having problems w/Java, go to safemode uninstall/reinstall java. You should be "on the road again...."
