    Sump pump
O I went to getI am asking this question for my son in law.he purchased his home 3 months ago .the builder would not fix the sump pump.the house is80 years old and the builder remodeled it.so when we got time to fix it,lwent to purchased a new one.I replaced what I had to.the first pump I got I think was a 1/2 horse.I put it all together and the water was not going down.so I took it back and got a 3/4 horse.I put it all together and the water did not go down.so a neighbor said to put 2 in pvc.so I went to get it.well when we started I cut the 1 1/2 elbow I look in the pipe going out of the house and it was blocked.the builder put a new sidewalk in and blocked the PVC pipe with the new sidewalk.so now we know why the water is not going out. Now the basement smells and the smell is going to the first floor also.what do we have to do to correct this.also can we go to the forest park,I'll village hall and complain about what the build did or go to a lawyer for help. Thank you ron

Hi chevy and welcome to The Plumbing Page at ANHD.com.
This problem doesn't require a lawyer. All you need to do is run a new PVC discharge line outside. You'll need to install a check valve next to the pump to prevent the smelly water from draining back in the pit. Good luck, Tom
