I had knee surgery 2 months ago and I am scared I have a blood clot in my leg
I am trying to decide if I should go to the ER or if I am just over reaccting. My calf still hurts after knee surgery but there is no redness or fever. My hands are getting numb a lot throughout the day and night. Can a blood clot cause that?

You should perhaps make an appointment with your doctor for tests, I don't see a reason to go to the ER

If you have a blood clot in your leg, you won't have numbness in your hand.

A blood clot presents with redness, swelling and pain at the location of the blood clot. Call your doctor's office in the morning.

The two things are probably not related. You should follow up with your surgeon about the calf pain. If you had a blood clot in your leg you would have redness and swelling in your leg. A blood clot would not cause a fever. Fever is caused when your body is fighting infection.

The numbness in your hands could be from a pinched nerve in your neck or high in your back, carpal tunnel, diabetes - lots of things. You should see your primary care doctor about that.

I have to say... I had knee surgery also... twice. Once to add pins and wires to hold my knee cap together and then about 8 months later to have the pins and wire removed. After the first surgery, I lived in constant pain. For the first 3 months, it was almost unbearable. I actually had to take painkillers to go to sleep and I am one that would prefer to not use any sort of medication or painkillers. The pain got better but never went away. Last February I had the surgery to remove the pins and wire. It was about May before I could say the pain got better but also never went away. Here it is, January, and I still have pain. I can live with it at this point, my body has become used to it and I hardly notice it anymore.

So should you go to the ER? Probably not. Definitely do go see the doctor to have it checked out and make sure everything is OK just to be sure. But, and you're probably not going to want to hear this, be ready to live with some amount of pain unless you are very lucky.

    Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that you are still in pain! My friend said it took a year for her to feel better but she still has pain too. Good luck!!
