    Tup - tub?
You may have a vent (out the roof) that is clogged with leaves, snow, dead animals.

I agree with Joy. Often when people have odors from their plumbing, they try to clean out the drain. If the drain is draining properly - water going down without problem, toilets flushing and so on, your drain isn't the problem.

The plumbing system also should have a vent. This is a pipe which normally goes from the plumbing system up through the roof and is designed so that plumbing gases can escape the system. So, liquids and solids go down the drain to the main waste pipe and out of the building, and gases go up and out the vent in the roof.

If your plumbing does not vent properly, he gases escape into the home and create a sewer smell in the house. If there is anything rotting in the venting system, those smells will come into the home as well. Some places are built without proper vents, which can prevent the system from draining water properly as well as causing the odor problem. Sometimes the vents are done properly but are clogged with debris, and sometimes it's a combination - badly designed and clogged venting system.

A plumber should be able to resolve it in any event - either clean out, redirect or install proper venting. The relief should be immediate once the gases are going out of the house.
