Is it possible to be pregnant and ultrasound sees nothing
My period is 5 weeks late, I did a blood test and the doctor said it was positive( so I am pregnant, very happy), I did an ultra sound and the doctor saw nothing. Is it possible that I am still pregnant. I was so dissapointed and shed a tear when I saw nothing on the ultra sound. What could be the problem?

This is something you really should discuss with your doctor.

Ultrasounds can be tricky. It could be that you're not that far along, which is why nothing is showing on ultrasound.

Your doctor really is the best one to discuss this with. He has access not only to the ultrasound, but your medical records. On the internet we can only guess, and there are a lot of possibilities.

Did the doctor give you any information after the ultrasound was done? Or was it only the ultrasound tech?

The ultrasound tech told me he sees nothing and he would consult my doctor to discuss this, but she's not on island

It's very possible that you're not as far along as you think you are. At 5 weeks gestation it's very common not to see a gestational sack.

If you're not experiencing any bleeding, or cramping, then I'd wait until your doctor gets back. I'm a bit surprised that they did an ultrasound this early.

Until you have a reason to worry, don't worry. Continue taking your prenatal vitamins, eat healthy, and take care of yourself. If you experience any bleeding or cramping, then go to the hospital.

I know that's not very comforting, you want to know what's going on right now, but sadly there's really no way to tell you, not over the internet.

If you can't see your doctor until she comes back, then you'll have to wait until she comes back. Is there no other doctor on the island taking care of her patients while she's gone?

Actually had a light spotting yesterday, saw nothing today, I guess she dealt with all her patients and all her appointments are rescheduled for the new year

Is she the only OBGYN on the island?

Really, if you're this concerned, I'd get in to see a doctor. I don't know how it works where you are, but where I am, an OBGYN always has a stand in when they go on vacation. There's never a time when they don't have a pregnant patient, which means they can't leave their clients without a doctor, therefore they have a stand in. Of course, in my clinic there are 6 doctors. If one goes on vacation, the others fill in while he's gone.

I wish I could give you better advice, there's simply no way to tell you what's going on without guessing. A guess won't help you one bit.

Yes, please do let me know how it all goes. I'm crossing my fingers that everything will be okay and in 8 months you'll be posting pictures of your beautiful baby. :)

Please keep us updated. But at 5 weeks it is not uncommon for a tech to see nothing. Also some techs are better than others, and some equipment better than other equipment

    So very true.

It can also depend on how full your bladder is. I know that one of my ultrasounds, when I was 8 months pregnant with my first, basically showed nothing, because my bladder wasn't full enough, the tech couldn't get a good shot.

Trust me, there was a baby in there, he was 8 pounds 2 1/2 ounces when he was born a mere 4 weeks later. :)
