    Hampton Bay Ceiling fan/light fixture
I've a Hampton Bay ceiling fan/light combo and the chain that controls the lights broke off. I have it apart but cannot get into the small black box (with clear cover) that housed the chain. Do I need to buy a whole new light fixture?

Typically you can't replace the chain, you replace the switch. It should have. 3-5 wires coming out. Disconnect the switch and take it to Home Depot and match it.
