    Won't say her name
My 19 month old daughter is really super smart. However she will not say her name. Her name is Izabel. She'll say Izzy, Iza but not Izabel. She also says her middle name which is harder than her first name and has no problem saying her last name. She knows Izabel is her name but when you ask her to say it she looks away and ignores you. Doc. Said I shouldn't be concerned cause she rec. her name and can say the rest of her name to give her time but I really want her say her name. Am I being pushy?

At 19 months? Probably, it's not an easy name depending how you pronounce it so give her more time, she is probably good with single or 2 sylable words and I-za-be-le isn't so easy to a developing mind.

I agree. It is a hard name to say. Most children do much better with two syllable words. My son (3) has been able to say his name for a long time (Con-nor) but still has trouble with his best friend's name (Al-y-ssa) he calls her "Lissa" it's just easier for them. That is where most nick names come from believe it or not. I would not be concerned at 19 months. She is still learning and growing, Her mind is like a sponge at this age and with all the information she is soaking in right now, it is hard to stay focused on something that seems (to her at least) so trivial. She will get it eventually. Like your doctor says, as long as she is responding, she is fine. She understands its her name.

My niece is over 2 years old and she still won't say her name. She can because she has before, but for the most part when you ask her too she'll do similar - look away or ignore you.

I'm not sure it's necessarily something to worry over, since Schyler is quite smart for her age as well. I think it's just a phase some children go through. :)

You are being pushy, she may just not like the name ( sorry had to say it) and is refusing to say or use it.

Also which name do you call her at home all the time, if you want her to say it, use it all the time also. Her reactions to you using it may also give you some idea.

Remember it was your pick for her name, not her choice, and she may not like it for some reason ( maybe another child made fun of it ?)
