Then get someone to drive you to the Emergency room... and see a different doctor.

Do you have an asthma protocol? That is a treatment plan that you and your doctor come up with when your asthma is worsening. It will include your peak flows and symptoms. Some examples that may be on it are:
    1. When peak flows drop to this amount, increase this medication to this amount this many times a day etc.
    2. It will tell you when you need to go to doctor and when you must go to ER.

I have asthma and it is frustrating when we are sick and unsure of what to do /not do. I found this helpful to me. Viruses unfortunately need to run their course but keep an eye on your asthma.
Also a hot cup of coffee can help with asthma symptoms. From what I was told it helps to relax the airways. It is not a cure to make it better rather a relief from symptoms. I would check with family doctor for a treatment protocol.

I also have asthma, and lucky not a serious attack in some years now, But yes your doctor should have sat down and covered "what ifs" with you,

When you just can't breath and the emergency inhaler is not working, go to the ER
