    Fathers rights help in California
I have a 3year old daughter whose life I desperately want to be a part of. Prior to her birth, the mother continueously did every drug she could get her hands on, chained smoked, never took her prenatal vitamins, very poor diet etc... A real gem of a mother. I pleaded with her about getting help but to no avail, she and my unborn daughter took off and bounced from dealer to dealer for the next 3 months. I was told to talk to police but they said to call cps. There was nothing they could do until she was born? Now it's month number 7 and she decides to get sober for my baby's birth. Despite the mothers repeated tries at miscarriege,my beautiful little girl was born 4 lbs. 11ounces full term ! Doctors had been notified about mothers prior abuse bacause she tested pos. on 4 separate doctor visits without me ever knowing (patient , doctor confidentiallity). She then took my daughter and was off again for another 3 month drug bienge. I finally called cps and this is when my life and my child's life changed forever! Biggest mistake I have ever made! Ive never been treated so bad by a gang of idiots in my life. I'm a contractor who's out of work! Where do I go from here?

Has CPS done an investigation? Have you gone to Family Court to file for full custody?

I think Scott got right to the solution - you file for custody in Family Court. You don't need an Attorney - although an Attorney would be helpful.

How did the CPS investigation make things work?

Was the mother smoking and using drugs during the time frame when you were having sex with her?

That is is a nicer way of putting the rhetorical question I would ask: "So, she was good enough to have sex with, but not good enough to be the mother of your child?"

Yes, this is part of the kinder, gentler AMHD.
