Why do my parents not accept me for who I am
Hi y'all.Well I want a parents point of veiw this time.Well I'm a 12 y.o. girl and have a very umm different way of veiwing the world.I have a very many problems a couple are I have a slight case of manic deppresive, personality disorder, and slight ADD.I am what most people consider a emo.But I have different senses of fashion like emo, scene, indie, hipster, etc.My mother hates it when I wear gloves, nerd glass's,chains, etc.My father also.I am the kitchen cleaner in my house and chore person in my house. They get extremely mad when I don't do something right. Its apperent that I'm the most problematic child in my house. My mom hates tattoos but I like them, same with piercings. They say I'm going through so many phases but I haven't changed in the past years. And she doesn't like the sense of humor I have. They both hate my music :like heavy metal:.I think they just over all don't understand youth. BTW I don't know if this helps but my mom was grown up in a strict christain house hold and school.Dad moved out of his house at 14.

You're 12 years old. When I was your age, my mom could not stand my music either. Adults complained about the way we dressed and I had chores, as did all my siblings and all my friends.
I don't like heavy metal and when my daughter was a teen there was music that she just could not bring into the house or listen to in the house. She had chores and she had better not come home with a tattoo or piercings.
Parents understand teens, we were once teens. Parents are responsible for you until you can be responsible for yourself.
Do your chores and obey your parents. You'll be glad you did when you are older.
When my daughter went to college she later told us she was glad we had rules and things we did not allow her to do. She said she didn't like it or understand it then, but she does now.

Your 12, of course parents hate your clothes, music and friends, that is what is suppose to happen.
But they appear to allow you to wear it, at my house, you would not be wearing it, I would say NO and you would not even own that type of clothes, so it appears they complain but allow.
As for as work around the house, of course, my boys by 12, did all of their own laundry, did dishes and keep most of the house clean. This is what all teens are suppose to be doing

Yeah some christains don't like heavy metal. I'm a christain and I love rock music. I a little bit older than you but I look through the eyes of an adult when it comes to this stuff. Okay. Yes today I do think adults look different about now, and in their days of child hood. Gothic Emo Punk etc is on high fashion scale yes. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? That was created in the 1970's, so like when they were around your age. I know punk was; heavy music, leather jackets, gloves, spiked dog collars. Yeah so your mom might not appreciate that. Ummm... I say maybe try other fashions for a little bit. I not saying try a different fashion for a long time I talking like maybe a month or two. But hey... But I will agree to this and stand my ground on this part. Don't CHANGE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC, that is like showing your soul in a spunky way. Heavy Metal is a type of rock. Try different verisions... I will list a couple of good songs for you. They are not heavy, but they have an upbeat and makes you feel like there is power going through your veins.
Unstoppable by Charm City Devils
Twisted Transitor by Korn
Enemies by Shinedown
Been Away Too Long by Soundgarden
I Miss the Misery by Halestorm
Absolute Zero by Stone Sour
And check out Five Finger Death Punch they have different uh lets say... scales of rock :)

Every single child, and teen, thinks their parents just don't understand, they're too strict, blah, blah, blah. We've all been there, and when you have kids, they'll think the same thing about you that you think about your parents.
Giving kids chores is a good thing, it teaches them responsibility. So you clean the kitchen and have chores. When you're an adult you'll have to clean the whole house, after working for 8 hours, and cooking your own meals, doing your own laundry, paying your own bills, taking care of yourself, and one day you'll likely have a child that you have to care for too. Cleaning the kitchen and doing a few chores is nothing at all. My kids are required to do more than that.
Think about it. Your parents provide the roof over your head, the clothes on your back, the food you eat, the education you receive, and everything else. The very least you can do is clean up some of the mess you help make, and be respectful.
