1998 Honda civic, first cylinder misfire
I've had no problems with my '98 Honda civic up until this year. I had a hose break and replaced all hoses earlier this year. Then a coiple months later had an oil leak and had the oil pan gasket replaced along with the radiator (it was cracked). Then the check engine light came on a few months after that with code misfiring cylinder 1. Took it to the honda dealer for all repairs after this- The compression test came back fine. Changed the spark plugs, wires, distributed cap, rotor. Drove for about a week and the light came on again, same diagnostic code. Noticed it was having a lot of white smoke out the muffler, and antifreeze was getting low really fast, so changed the head gasket and shaved it. Then drove for about two days and the light came on again. They tried changing the fuel ignition, light still came on. Then some other valve, and the light came on again today. Still, same code, cylinder 1 misfiring. I'm up to $3000. In repairs this year, the car isn't even worth that much... But it has 125,000miles, so I keep thinking it should have some life left... Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Check for any leaks around the intake manifold. Start the engine and spray the intake manifold with a spray bottle of water --listen for changes in the sound of the engine. Replace the intake manifold gasket, if necessary.

The intake manifold was fine. Coil packs updated. Alternator drive belt updated. New distributor.
    Any other suggestions?

. Remove the spark plugs and check each cylinder's compression.

. Apply dielectric grease to the spark plug's porcelein and top electrode.

. Check timing with a timing light, after setting the idle speed to spec.

P.S. Well-maintained Hondas can go well over 300,000 miles.

Was the distributor a genuine Honda product?
