What would cause constant numbness in your hand?
My husband has had constant numbness in his right hand (pinky side), and at times clean up to his elbow. This has been going on for close to 2 months now. Is this something to be worried about?

Again - you can get answers on here but why not go see a qualified expert called a doctor so you know for sure whether you need to worry. I know husbands and men in general don't like going to the doctor but still.

Thank you for your reply, but if I wanted a comment from the flipping peanut gallery, I would have asked you personally! I came here for a clue as to what it could be to see if there was enough concern for him to care enough to go to a doctor. I am not an idiot, So if you don't have a viable answer, please don't waste your time or mine for that matter, with smartaleck responses, THANK YOU!

As a nurse, I would reply to your question. However, since you are so unappreciative of the time we volunteer here, I think I will refrain from answering your question as I'm sure I'll get a rude response as well, no matter whether the advice I would give is beneficial to your husband's situation or not.

Sorry - you took my answer the wrong way. I was merely trying to convey that you can get many answers on here but you might still be worried. Or you could go to a medical professional and not be worried when he checks him out completely.
Many women on here ask if they are pregnant. How can anyone on her know? So the advice is always go get checked.
And honestly men don't like to go to the doctor. That is a fact.

Excuse me? This site is here for you to help by answerring questions people need medical answers to, not smartaleck remarks telling one to go see something called a doctor! You should be reported to your superiors for your answer as well, I don't think you are being one bit professional, and you call yourself a nurse? The first reply to my question was far from professional and extremely sarcastic, which of course deserved a sarcastic reply. But for you to come back here with your reply as a so called nurse, shows you don't know what the meaning of professionalism is and surely don't deserve your title! I am a CNA myself and have much respect for the nursing profession, but you certainly wouldn't get any from me as that is something that is earned, not a given.
Thank you for your time and honest answer...
And for the record, I am copy/pasting this entire conversation and forwarding it to a few respectable sites including the main domain of this site.
Regards, Terry

You're awesome. You go, girl.
We're all volunteers here. We don't get paid. We're not "professionals". You get what you pay for.
On top of that, nobody online can give you an accurate diagnosis of what is wrong. It could be as simple as a pinched nerve or something much worse. To get anything worthwhile out of this, you will need to see someone. Sorry you don't like that.

My superiors? I, as well as all of the others are volunteers here. I don't get paid for this. I volunteer to help people like you, for free, after I have worked a 12 hour night shift. Attitudes like yours just make us VOLUNTEeRs want to help a little less. Kindness goes a long way and you catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar!

No men do not like going to the doctor, hence my reason for asking for help. But so much for getting the help I requested. At least you had the decency to come back to apologize and that I have much respect for. And I apologize back to you as well.Thank you and good day.

Volunteering gives you no right to speak to me like you did, I also work 12 hour shifts as well as 24 hour shifts and still have enough self respect left to treat others better than you did me. My attitude? I only get attitude when it is dealt to me first as it was here, but at least he/she had the decency to return with an apology, you on the other hand are simply unprofessional and don't belong volunteering, try a little of your own advice with the vinegar/honey talk as you clearly need to practice what you preach ;) good day

Thank you for the apology to Oliver. I agree that men hats going to the doctor. I have a husband of my own. LOL
Now, since you are a CNA, as you so clearly stated in your reddie to me, thank you by the way, you should know that this could be caused by a few things. It's possible that it could be carpal tunnel syndrome, it could be nerve damage, it could be a pinched nerve.
We can only give you suggestions, but in the end he will have to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

My right hand gets numb. It's my mouse hand. It's practically an epidemic from what I read - the mouse hand is usually held at an angle out to the side, and the result is thousands of cases of carpal tunnel and nerve pain or blockage (numbness) a year.
I have a return on my desk and try to keep my arm resting on it with my elbow out so that my forearm and hand are in a line, but I forget. Constantly. I get sore and numb at the same time.

This is flat out RUDE not to mention ignorant... its also exceptionally disrespectful. YOu asked a question and you got one , several actually then you go off on some PMS fueled tirate offending everyone on this site.
Be thankful we can't reach through the computer screen and slap you upside the head... because we would have already.
We are ENTITLED to respect... not this abuse you seem so fond of dishing out. You must be a real joy to be around... and I mean that in the most sarcastic way possible.
Get a life.

Like Joy, I've had to rethink how I use my computer mouse because of tingling and some pain in my right arm and hand. I Googled it to find out that if I lay my entire arm along the desk top (from elbow to hand) so the entire forearm is supported by the desk, that helped tremendously. A friend of mine even switched to his left hand to do his mousing. If this hasn't helped in, say, a couple of weeks, be sure to get him to a doctor, or even a chiropractor for a second stab at this, maybe because a nerve is being pinched in his neck (yes, that can affect the arm and hand) or maybe something else entirely is going on.

I am absolutely floored by what you consider to be rude.
I do hope the suggestions about mouse hand are taken.
I am lucky that I have an antique desk with a return on each side, a slide out shelf, for resting my arm. I hope that all the people who waste countless dollars on doctors will at least get a little side table, even a TV table, that's the same height as the desk.
Being short, in my 60s, and generally arthritic now, I am conscious of all sorts of aches, and cut my antique desk down by 3 inches, so that I sit correctly in regard to my legs, back, shoulders, arms, even the angle of my head, so that I am not peering down.
Hope it helps your hubby, and that it doesn't turn out to be something serious.
