Effect of dogs eating hot sauce?
All right so my brother is staying with me for a while because he's out of school, and I love him but he's a real asshat. I have 4 small dogs and he's continuously feeding them hot sauce because, welll, he basically drinks the stuff. The dogs have not acted out in pain (whining, crying, etc.) while eating it but they do continuously smack their lips . He won't stop because he asserts it doesn't hurt them, so my question is basically this; does it hurt them? Can dogs taste spice like humans do, and can this have any effect on their future health (I know there is quite a number of things dogs cannot eat, is hot sauce one of them?) Thanks for answering!

Okay, common sense should prevail here. No hot sauce, dogs may think they like it, but I would not give them hot sauce. No prevailing side effects, but some serious side effects on a long term basis would be my best bet.

Do you love your dogs? Do you love your brother? Kick him out if he persists in givng them food that will gradually destroy their innards.

Hot sauce is human food, not dog food. Will you notice any bad effects? Well, the runs, and vomiting are possible, but the worst is the effects it will have long term.

Tell your brother that he can do what he wants to the animals in his care, if he doesn't love them and want the best for them. But, these are your dogs, and if he refuses to stop doing something you've told him you don't approve of, which is bad for your dogs, then he can leave.

Edit: Tickle, I read your post after I posted mine. Great minds think alike. :)

Thanks for the answer, of course I love my dogs and my brother (though admittedly the little ones are certainly a little easier to love most of the time) and while I have of course continuously told my brother to stop he insists that I don't know what I'm talking about (because I'm a chef and not a vet) that dogs love hot sauce and even that its good for them. I'm telling him now though, that if he puts that stuff anywhere near those doggies or their food again, the hot sauce is going in the trash and his butt's getting whooped by his little sis.

(because I'm a chef and not a vet)
Is he a vet? Because unless he is, you being a chef, and not a vet, has nothing to do with anything. You can tell him that people that are far more educated about dogs than he is, told you it's bad, and until he becomes a vet, or an expert on dogs, he has no opinion on the matter. Even then, they're your dogs and what you say goes.

Hot sauce, I would think, would give your dog some serious, projectile diarrhea.

I hope the brother is directly in line of it when it happens!
