Expenses re-imbursement on H1 and forms to fill
    Hi

I am Indian citizen and come to US as a student on Aug 2002. I was working from Jan 1- 31 ,2006 in OPT. Then from Feb 1 ,2006 - Dec 31 2007 in H1 B visa. I am assuming I have to fill 1040 or 1040 EZ. Is this assumption right?

I am working as Software Consultant. In March 2006, I moved from Saint Paul,MN to Memphis, TN. My employer "A" paid all the expenses except my expense of driving the car and goods to Memphis. As I moved on my own, I don't have any receipt. Whether can I claim the expenses as moving expenses ?

In June 2006, I changed my employer "A" to "B" and moved to a new client location. I moved from Memphis to Boston. The expenses for moving included - shipping car, flying , car rental in (boston) new place till my car didn't arrived. Total expenses spend was more than the expenses paid by the employer. Whether can I claim the expenses as moving expenses ?

    Thanks in advance

    Tuhin:

Your assumption is NOT CORRECT. You must file a dual-status return.

For the moving expenses, no receipt is needed for the driving; just claim the mileage rate at 18 cents a mile. You can also claim the moving expenses on the new job, but you must offset the expenses with whatever you received in reimbursements.

You can claim the cost of moving and storing your stuff, the actual travel for the move, the cost of moving your car, the lodging during the move, and THAT'S IT!
