The legal age of consent in Michigan is 16. She's not 16, and you're about to become an adult.

It isn't illegal to simply date a minor. If there is absolutely no sexual contact until she is 16, then you're fine. Just keep it in your pants for a little while.

I did read it. He isn't yet eighteen. Sex prior to that is, quite honestly, irrelevant. She'll be of consent in such a short amount of time that prosecution is nearly impossible if it were to even come to that in such a minute age gap. The "consent" laws are formed to punish the likes of pedophilia. This is simply an adolescent relationship, and quite a normal one in this day and age.

Actually, no. He was 17, she was 15. The legal age of consent is 16. Not hard math to do. He doesn't have to be 18 in order for this to be illegal. He's over 16, and she's under.

Will he be prosecuted? Well, if the girls parents choose to press charges he can go to jail for statutory rape.

Also, you seem to be contradicting yourself.

    Which is it?

You stated that it isn't illegal to date a minor if there is no sexual contact until she's 16. You tell the Op to keep it in his pants.

When I point out that they have had sex you change your mind and decide it's okay for them to have sex because he's not 18.

So which is it? It can't be both.

In my humble opinion, you should seriously reconsider your priorities. It actually felt necessary to you - taking the time to virtually scald someone you don't know, for a simple delivery of misinformation? Have mercy on the next newbie who crosses you...

Next time, save me the trouble and answer the kid's question for me, since I'm so incredibly ill-informed.

I'm sorry that you can't see how this is not acceptable. Do you realize the possible consequences this soon to be adult could face if he took your advice and continued having sex with someone that is underage? He could go to jail.

I have no desire to fight with you. If what you post is accurate, that's great. But, if you post inaccurate info, expect to get corrected. I would expect the same thing if I were to post something that wasn't accurate, which I have done. No one is perfect.

    Good luck.
