I'm 14 and I have always thought I was adopted. When I was born I had black hair and blue eyes, similar to my sisters, even though they had bright blonde hair and blue eyes like my parents. But as I have looked through tons of old photos after I was about 2 almost no pictures exist until I'm about 4. I can't find any. When I noticed this I went back and compared the pictures from when I was real young, to when I was about 4. They are not similar at all! I understand that small kids grow and change fast, but it doesn't look like the same child at all. From pictures of when I was 4ish, I had bright blonde hair and green eyes. When I was a baby until I was about 2 I had dark brown hair and blue eyes. The body structure and everything is different. I have always felt completely disconnected with my family especially my older sister. Me and her are nothing alike usually you have a similar body frame and looks as a sibling but we don't. She has always been about 2 times my size. Then my younger sister is just like my older one. Same facial expressions and everything. I am also not alike to my parents. They are both built stocky and short. I'm tall and slender. No one in my family is built like me, or resembles me. I know I could have just gotten some seriously recessive genes but I feel like there is more to it than that. When I mention anything about being adopted my parents usually just give each other a quick look and change the subject quickly. I have talked to one of my dearest friends about it and she thinks its possible because even she can notice how I'm not as accepted with my family. I know I could always have tests done, but I'm scared of what I would find. I have considered it greatly. Please if anyone has any advice or opinion I will gladly listen.

I can say that it is entirely possible that you are adopted. Have you asked about photos from birth to 4? It's also possible that you aren't adopted. My sister has very dark skin, dark eyes, and very curly hair. When I was born, it appeared that she was African-American and I was Caucasian. It still looks that way when we are with each other. We have the same parents. She is short and stocky, and I am tall and thinner. So, even when you think you are not related, you very well could be.

My two sons look totally different from each other, but I guarantee you they are both mine. I was there when they were born! And the younger one doesn't look like anyone we know.

Nearly every teenager wonders at some point whether they were adopted, because nearly every teenager feels the disconnect you are talking about.

I had black hair as a baby and small child, and it was almost white blonde by the time I was 3 or 4, and was dark again about the time I turned 20.

If you truly want to know, you need to ask your parents at a quiet time when no one is feeling defensive. Be prepared for your parents to feel very hurt, though, that you do not feel like you belong to them. Adopted or not, you are their child and of course they wanted you.
