    Is it OK to use foam board to insulate a basement ceiling?

    Foam board insulation is usually used for basement walls. If u are finishing off basement and going to have heat in it, u do not want to insulate the ceiling as that will deter the transfer of heat to upper floors.

    If leaving basement unfinished and not heated it would be best to put in R19 fiberglass insulation. Have not seen foam board rated that high and fiberglass is less expensive.
