Sally Left a l Awful Smell
I started noticing the smell 4 days after Storm Sandy visited us. My house was built 35 years ago. I have never noticed Ghosts in the house. Spring is not buried under the house, must have already turned into fossil by now. Basement has block walls and first I noticed water seeping in the laundry room into the sump. Never needed sump pump. So when sump pump filled up used basket to empty it. Two days later sump pump filled up and emptied again. Bought a small pump to empty the sump and flushed it with fresh water as well. Now seepage into the sump has reduced but now I have this terrible odor but not in the sump area but in the hallway outside laundry/utility room. Sewer pipe is under the utility room. No smell in that room. Next Utility room is a bathroom, no smell there. There is a french drain around the basement therefore carpet is all dry. But this bad smell is killing me. Its about 4-5 days when I first felt it. Tonight plan to use exhaust fan.

Hi msiddique and welcome to The Plumbing Page at AskMeHelpDesk.com You are responding to a 4 year old dead thread so I gave you one of your own. Please check the date before you post. Thanks,
Try cleaning the sump pit with bleach and check the traps in your floor drains. See if that doesn't help. Let me know the results. Good luck, Tom
