[Nostalgia101]

My ex is the only person I have even been deeply in Iove with. I remember the feelings, the butterflies and my heart pumping out of my chest. We were together for over 4 years and had a beautiful and loving relationship in the beginning. Well, that was 7 years ago. I broke up with him because over the years, as I was growing up (21-25) I realized that he was not treating me as well as I felt I should be treated. He was an extremely stubborn and self absorbed person. Even then, when I was walking out of his life, I knew that he wouldn't come find me or try to get me back.

I don't think about him every day or all the time, but I still have regular dreams about him, and wake up wanting to be near him. Despite how things ended, and even though I am conscious of the very good reasons they ended, I miss him and I long for those feelings I had with him. I wake up from the dream, remembering how it felt to kiss him, to hold his hand... In the 7 years we have been apart, although I have dated, I never been in love again. I realize that my idea of my ex has outgrown reality. I realize a relationship with him would not work, and I am not interested in trying to get him back. Also - he is married now.

I have been with a man now for 2 years and he treats me very well, but I do not love him the way I loved my ex. Perhaps that is an age thing, and when you're older you just can't fall for someone the same way.

Sorry for the rambling, this is by far not the best thing I've ever written... but I am curious if there are others like me out there. Nostalgic for a past love? Do you ever REALLY get over someone you loved so deeply?
