My psa has gone from 6 to 7 in a month. What does this mean?

I've had 2 psa tests. I am 50. The first was 6, a little high. The 2nd was 7, even higher. I have to see a specialist. I just want to know what I am in for while I wait to see the doc. Is it serious or not?
