Hi,
You have no power to the anti-backfire sloenoid(on the carb) or it is not grounded.
Peace,

Hi,
No, if the coil smoked and failed, that is a sign of battery voltage on the ignition ground wire. Common cause of this is a faulty key switch. This is one of the oldest still active B&S service bulletins dating back to the early 1980's. Also I would point out the coils are usually "Cyl Side" and "This Side Up" and will not function upside down.
Peace,
Clarke

I ant to say I discovered that the coil field like thing under the flywheel when I took the flywheel off I found there was part of this thing with solid copper wires rapped around them, there was two, or three of them that little pieces of them were burnt off. I have a real problem now don't I? I when out today, and the battery was fully charged, but now is completely dead.

Hi,
That is the stator. My guess is that something caused contact between the flywheel magnets and stator causing the stator to overheat. It in turn probably took the rectifying system which is what caused your battery to discharge(just disconnect the negative cable for now and charge it back, but leave cable diconnected.) Then post the engine numbers off the silver and black tag rivetted to the top of the engine and I will look up parts and give you a link to the parts manual.
Post on this same place as a Reply and I will automatically get notified.

Hi,
Simply keep adding to this thread in the future; I will be automatically notified.
Yes, it could cause the failure of other electrical components. It could fail the rectifier or feed back through the igniton ground to the coil.
If you have a DVM or multimeter, I am qualified to walk you through the electrical system. I have had OPE electrical certification, electronic certification(CET) and am currently an A+ IT certified technician(CompTIA.)
Peace,
