Remote Control Ceiling Fan to Hardwire Switch
    Hi ~

I just bought a Harbor Breeze 52” Avian Ceiling Fan (Model #75849) from Lowe's. Unfortunately, this model comes with a remote control function and I need to hardwire it. The sales representative convinced me that all I need to do is to throw away the ceiling fan remote control and receiver and then hardwire the light to the wall switch and hardwire the fan connection to a Lutron (SFSQ-F Single Pole Fan Control Quiet 3-Speed) fan control.

As you are probably aware, there are all types of warnings in the instructions not to wire this remote control fan to a solid state speed control. I find this interesting because the receiver for the remote control unit states that it is a solid state speed control.

Am I correct in assuming that if I remove the wireless receiver and hook it up to the Lutron solid state speed control switch everything will work fine? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The sales rep was likely wrong. Most remote fans cannot be used without the remote.

Where is the receiver located, and how many wires go to it? Does the fan have pullchains? If you don't know the answers to these questions you definitely can't do it :)

OK I have some answers for you.

1.) The fan does not have a pull chain.

2.) The remote speed control receiver is a completely separate unit that needs to be connected to a blue, white and black wire going to the fan motor and light and a hot and ground wire from the house.

3.) I took the cover off above the motor housing. I found a fan reverse switch and a small black box that I believe to be the capacitor for the motor. The small black box is a Sheng Ye C61. The rest of the writing is 4.5uF+/-5% 350VAC 50/60 Hz E185116 105degreesC

4.) I think the big question is will I fry the capacitor if I connect the fan to the Lutron Skylark SFSQ-F Single Pole Fan Control Quiet 3-Speed? The markings on the Lutron also have 120V-60Hz 1,5A

Unfortunately this fan is not a replacement. If I ever replace a fan, I'll send you an e-mail so that I can mail the old one to you if you cover the shipping.

    Thanks,

You can TRY hooking the fan up without the receiver, it should work, but since the fan does not have pullchains I cannot guarantee it. Try hooking the black and blue wires to hot power source, white to neutral, the fan should run on high and the lights light up. If this works, you can use your Lutron control, hook it to the black wire.

For others who may still wonder the answer, I have this same fan model and have installed 4 of them without the remote with no difficulty. I have all 4 hooked up to Lutron 3-speed fan controllers.

As I recall from the warning you mention, it is warning users not to use *light* dimmers on the fan motor switch.
