I think the following show was a story from tales from the crypt type show in the late 80s early 90s .
The show began in sort of a 60s era . A street race car driver that had never been beaten raced a kid who ended up getting killed . The driver decided he would never race again and put his car in his barn with a car cover over it . He had to hide it because police where looking for him for questioning involving the death .
(this is where it gets kind vague) - The show does sort of a 20 years later thing and the dead driver ghost ( greeser kid in a muscle car ) has come back to haunt the highway or the man who got him killed . The older man decides that he needs to race again to get rid of the ghost and goes to race the kid . I remember thinking it was so cool he's back in his old car after all these years .
I believe the show ends with something like he races the kid and show how tricks him into driving into a bulldozer . Im not sure if the kid was pretending to be a ghost or what .
Anyway , If anyone has any clue of what this is , I would love to watch it again . But I won't keep my hopes up 8) .
