    Heat Pump Dryer/Filter
A contractor just installed my new 2-1/2 ton Ruud heat pump. He did not install the dryer/filter that came boxed and shipped within the wiring compartment of the heat pump. When asked why he did not install it he said the unit already had one internally and this one is only needed if the coolant line was opened in the future. Sounded very odd to me. Is he telling me thruth or cutting corners? It is not like manufacturers, especially Rheem, to be sending extra parts for the future.

    Thanks

He is either mistaken or is taking short cuts. The device installed in the outdoor unit is NOT a filter-dryer.
