The film I am trying to remember is a really old film probably in black and white. It's the story of a little girl in an orphanage, one of her jobs is putting out bread for all the kids. She is taken in by a man and wife; the wife loves her but the man thinks she is a freak because she has a vivid imagination, for example they go out in a rowing boat, she drops her doll in the water and becomes hysterical because piranhas will eat her doll.

Anyway the wife dies and the man sends her back to the orphanage. She always locks herself in a closet when she is sent back, but this time one of the staff catch her. It gets a bit fuzzy after this, but she ends up going back to live with the man.
