We have a bathroom in the garage. The vent pipe does not go through the roof. We often have a strong odor in the garage (and adjoining office) and the toilet gurgles sometimes. Do we need to run the pipe through the roof or will a vent filter sufice?

We have an old Florida home with one bath. In spite of our best efforts, smells tend to linger after flushing the toilet. Could we have a hole or break in our vent pipe, and could that be the cause?
