Went from heavy to EXTREMELY heavy

I have been on the birth control shot for a year and recently due to insurance issues I haven't been able to get one. Starting last Tuesday I have been feeling really tired and worn out. I started my period on thrusday last week. It was been like it always has been which is normally heavy. Starting today it went from heavy to extremely heavy to where I am going through 2+ tampon an hr with sever cramping. Is this normal or what should I do?
