    dangers of conceiving
    Hi Doctor

    My wife had Anti rubella and antibodies IGG test and the result is positive and the method is ELISA value is 1.44 OD ratio Is there a reason to worry

    Okay, so I'm not an expert on this but here goes... It depends on how far along she is in the pregnancy. Rubella is considered part of the TORCH diseases; when these diseases as well as some others affect mothers during pregnancy there is an increased risk of birth defects and miscarriage. If she was infected before she was 8 weeks pregnant there is an increased risk of a wide array of birth defects because this is the time when all the vital organs of the body develop. But, if she was infected after week 8 there is less of a chance that it will have an effect on the baby.
    Also while I'm thinking about it did they do a titer for IgM as well? IgM would more definitively say how recent the infection was; or did she have the test because she showed symptoms of infection?
    Has an ultrasound been done? What has your GP said about it?

    Again sorry, I'm no expert on the matter. I would be slightly concerned, but I would wait until you get a definitive answer from your GP and see a recent ultrasound before you get carried away.

    Hi Gerald,

    The Doctors Told that all is fine the LIsa teat showed positive. She is not yet preganant . We are planning. Doctor Has told us that all is fine. And she has given B Long Tablet. Please advise if this is good before preganancy

    Oh sorry I misunderstood. I thought she was already pregnant. Blah... reading is essential.

    You should be in the clear then; rubella is only dangerous if it's in its "infective stage" your wife should be "non infective" soon and the chances of a second infection are slim. The most that it will probably do is pass antibodies on to your child; which will actually help with their immune system.
    Honestly, I have no idea if that particular drug is okay for the pregnancy or not (I'm just a med student, and I haven't taken pharmacology yet... ). I'm sure that if the doctor gave it to you, knowing your intent to become pregnant than it's fine.

    It's nice to see a husband/father so worried!
