    Gastritis adventures
Hello Im looking for some advice on my gastritis. Im a 47 year old female and I have suffered from stomach problems for 3 years. I had a stomach ulcer following the use of anti-inflammatory drugs. I lost a lot of weight and developed gallstones which led to my gallbladder being removed. This was just after my stomach healed up. I was pleased it had healed and I stopped taking my PPI tablets which were Lansoprazoles. I had a massive acid reflux after a few days which gave me severe chest pains and oesophagitis. I was struggling to eat again and vomiting with some pain. However this didn't really resolve itself for a long time. I last had an endoscopy last summertime which revealed that I have gastritis and a hiatus hernia. I was dismayed but carried on with Lansoprazoles which I was put back on. However I had them changed to Pantoprazoles. I can't remember how long Ive been on Pantoprazoles but the pain has just got a lot worse from the start of the year. I still get some reflux as I have a hiatus hernia but the pain is worse. My medication was put up to 3 a day and I now think it was the tablets that caused it but Im not sure. I have to see the gastro again but he wasn't much help before. Has anyone else gone through this? I don't know what the answer is as I don't know the cause of it. My biopsies didn't shed any light on it except that I don't have H pylori. I don't drink or smoke or take drugs. I am trying to keep off trigger foods like chocolate but it won't get better. I need it to get better. I think it's the tablets but Im not sure. What should I do? Im hoping to be referred to another hospital. Is there any more tests I can have? Im looking all over for answers and opinions to this. I am losing sleep due to pain. ThanksI

There are several groups of drugs used to treat ulcer disease. PPİ like omeprazole, lansoprozole they are used more often. And used instead of H2 blockers like ranitidine but use long usage of PPI can cause decrased absorption of B12 vit , cause the acidity of the stomach decreased absorption of B12 is also decreased. Then anti acids like talcid they change the acidic secration to basic producing salt and water. Then mucus protector (suralfat) are used theay are citoprotectors get combined with the gastric mucosa make it more thick jelly substance and protects the underlyng gastric tissue. Prostoglandins may used as well to decrase the acidity. You said that there is no H. pylori that needs combined antimicrobial treatment. Hope you will get better soon.

Hello Tape, fellow ulcer and reflux sufferer here.
First and foremost I wold urge to stay on top of this with your doctor, and if you feel you need a second opinion then by all means get one.
If you feel the medication isn't working for you then you need to contact your doctor and let him know.
There are some dietary issues to consider, do you mind if I ask what you typically eat now?
When do you eat? And do you take any over the counter products for things like headache and colds and such?
Nothing I can tell you should take the place of a medical opinion, but perhaps I can be of some help regarding what to stay away from until you get another medical evaluation.

Gastritis can be such an ongoing condition with diverse sets of problems that I would join a chat room on the subject. Just Google 'gastritis chat.'

Hmm, never thought of a chat room for gastritis, good idea.
One thing is for sure, it IS ongoing, diverse and as OP stated an adventure.
I've certainly learned that over the past 11 or so years.
Digestive problems can impact so many things in your life.
