Why were you turned down? Former criminal convictions should not have a bearing. Eligibility is based on prior work record and why you were terminated.

Did you have enough current work ? Being a formal felon has nothing to do with getting unemployment.

Agreed, this is a very interesting issue, and we want to see or advise you if possible on what is happening. Everyone should get their unemployment if they are entitled.

The message I got said this:
" It was turned down becase I am a felon and the job I was working said after 1 year of employment that no felons can work at this private school driving the van transporting the children. "
While it may be true that the school has rules against employing a felon as a driver, that shouldn't affect your unemployment, unless, you lied about your status and were dismissed for cause.

Yes, if they were aware of this and it is on your application, and they fire you, then you should get.
If you lied and it was against their rules , then they can deny. I would still appeal, and hope one of the hearing judges will still allow payment

Unemployment after being fired is much more difficult to get than for being laid off.
Laid off is automatic; fired allows the employer to state the reason why you were fired and you can be denied if the reason is valid in the eyes of the Unemployment Office. Most firings don't get the benefit.
It sounds like you lied when you applied for the job, so would never have been hired. The fact that it took the school so long to find out isn't relevant.
