How do I deal with grandparents wanting to give my baby junk food?
I have a 5 month old baby girl and she has very loving grandparents (my in laws). I know it's the grandparents job to "spoil" their grandchildren but I'd like it to be in other forms than food. I'm not sure when the only way to love your grandchildren was through junk food.

My husbands family (1 sister, 3 brothers) are all overweight/obese. As is his mother and other extended family. My husband said when they were kids there was always junk food in the house, dessert after every dinner, etc. I don't really care what they choose to eat, but his parents have made comments about how soon they will be able to give her chocolate chip cookies and treats, etc. My husband and I agreed that we would be more careful with what she is allowed to eat, due to the weight issues in his family and it's the last thing we want for our daughter.

I'd like for her first "treat" to be her birthday cake, which I will tone down and handmake. How can I express this to my inlaws delicatley? I want to stand my ground- she is my child and I should be able to make some rules regarding her care- but how?

She is only a baby, so I am going to assume they are not giving her anything to eat. When the time comes that they offer her something, let them know that you are not feeding her any sweets, junk food, etc. and that you will provide all food for her if they are to watch her. Let them know that soon, so in the future, they can buy her a cute outfit or an educational baby toy instead. Make sure your husband participates in this conversation since these are his parents.
