I have recently discovered I am pregnant with my second child I am only 6 weeks gone but already my uterus has expenpanded to the size of a 4 month pregnancy. Twins do not run in my family but my partners father is a identical twin, also his grandmother on his mothers side is a twin and his mother also had a set of twins before she met his father so sets of identical twins run from both sides of his family. Would this increase my chances of having twins.

Fraternal twins occur in about 12 of every 1000 births.

There is no evidence that the likelihood of having identical twins is impacted by genetics. Identical twins occur in approximately 4 of every 1000 births, and are no more common in any one group of people.

As you probably know, twins come in two types — fraternal and identical. Fraternal twins are produced from two different eggs that are each fertilized by different sperm, which results in two embryos with different genetic make-up. Identical twins are produced when a fertilized egg divides in two, and both "halves" grow into identical twins that have the same genetic make-up.

Fraternal twinning is caused by a gene on the X chromosome. This gene may cause hyper-ovulation — when a woman's ovaries release more than one egg per ovulation cycle. A woman can inherit the hyper-ovulation gene from either of her parents. However, if she inherits it from her father, the gene will appear to "skip a generation" because men cannot affect whether his partner's ovaries will release multiple eggs. Thus, a man with a family history of fraternal twins is not more likely to father twins himself. But, if a man has fraternal twins in his family, he can pass the twin gene on to a daughter.

That's the official medical stance but I do know people who swear identical twins run in their family. Maybe that's something that sometimes happens that the science hasn't caught onto yet?

Woman often find their pregnancy shows more quickly with the second or subsequant pregnancies than it did with the first.

I presume you will be due for a scan soon which will answer that question for you anyway.

Hi I was trying to figure out how far along I am I know I'm pregnan but the problem is from Aug 7th 2010 till Sept 7th 2011 my periods have always been the same time started 8am on the 7th went till the 11th about 7-8pm well sept 7 2011 was my last normal period oct 7th I was late so took a test it was Positve then had 13negs after that I started bleeding oct 11th about noon but only very light spotting for few days then the same again in nov the 11th in early morning and even lighter spotting for 2days... dec 11th came around I was getting sick all the time and just felt weird so took 3 text all postives I've taking 10more since but haven't been able to get into doctor until almost end of janFULL appts (also ob won't take you till you are at least 8wks or more and I told the nurse all this same information and she said I'm not really sure you could be further along but shed get me the soonest appt possible and that Jan26th unless there's a cancelation) but this is my 4th pregnant I have 3 children already and only spotted a few days before missed period on all three and my 1st and 3rd I spotted once a month for few days for 1st 4months going off the sze of my stomach and how it looks and feels I think I did get pregnant in sept I look like I did when I started to show with last 3kids when I was around 3/4 months along... is there a way I can tell how far along I am before I get into my docter so far all doctors going that my due date in going to be before August 17 2012 sometime and that I'm around 7wks right now... also had one more question I've always wanted to know if you know... how could you tell how far along someone was before they had all the testing they have today if didn't know doc or lmp or any of that information

Hi, the date of my last period was the 18th of June which was 2 days late and only lasted 3 days including the start and end day of my period so I was bleeding for one full day. This is unusual for me, I also have period pains but I didn't have any last month. I took a test but it came back with a negative reading, I thought this must be right as I had come on my period, but I am now 3 days late from the 18th, my usual date is the 16th so don't know which date to go off but am 3 days late from the 16th. Could the test I took be wrong and how long should I leave it before I take another.

I've had unprotected sex with my boyfriend, I am on the pill. But I am really late on my period. I've took about 4 pregnancy test and they all say negative. Do you know what might be wrong??
