    Squatters rights apartment
I have a friend who live in a 2 flat. The building have been vacant for over 6 years. I think a bank may own it she and her boyfriend have been there over 3 years. Can they be put out and if so are they due to some kind of financial help. I heard that they [who ever they are] have to offer the squater money to help relocate. We are in chicago, il.

In general squatters have no rights to take something someone else owns.

They can be charged with Criminal tresspass and tossed in jail. Where they get a room and three squares a day.

Let me make sure I've got this straight - your friend and her friend have been living in a vacant building, not paying rent (obviously) for three years, in Chicago.

Yes, they can be "put out." They are there illegally. I suspect they will be arrested and then "put out."

Are they DUE any financial help? You are suggesting that the owner of the building they have been stealing from (living somewhere and not paying rent) should pay them in order to keep them from living illegally in the landlord's building?

Where did you hear this? I think you're confusing rent-paying people in a building which is sold or goes into foreclosure with people who move in and cheat the landlord by not paying rent.

I've heard of chutzpah, but this is a clear winner if there's a contest!

There are no squatters rights in Chicago or anywhere else in Illinois. You say its vacant but they are living there so it isn't, can't be vacant. What did you mean by vacant?
