    Oil seep,Cylinder hone
Craftsman 40cc 2 cycle chainsaw... actually two questions... is disassembled, all oil and fuel drained out (or so I thought) I have oil very slowly coming out the small hole forward, but underneath the bar mounting plate (the hole that oils the chain,I am assuming),even when that side of chassis is facing the ceiling... enough so that the slot where that hole is has filled up with oil twice so far in two days... would this be normal,is there a reservoir or something in the chassis separate yet connected,to the "oil tank" or a check valve gone bad?
Second question, same saw... the cylinder is scratched up from the piston and ring, which are damaged also. Have new piston and ring, can the cylinder be honed out like most any other cylinder?
Am wondering, not really wanting to do all that work and it not hold compression, and have to re-do everything all over again, meaning gaskets and tear down.

    Hi,
The first can be normal; called capillary action. The second is problematic. No honing is possible. If the scratches on the cylinder are in fact metal transfer from the old piston, then the new ring will quickly clean up. If they are gouges, then the plating is compromised. Cylinders used to be hard chrome plated. Now they are usually made with one of several forms of sputtering. Difficult to say without physical examination.
    Peace,
    Clarke
