My landscaper cut the septic pump cord that was plugged in under the bushes. I reconnected the wires using crimp connectors. I buried the remaining wire and plugged it in. I cannot hear the pump so how do I know if the pump is working properly ?

The pump is underground. I was having GFI issues and I have figured it out. The pump is working. I can hear it humming underground.

Great but;

That cord is probably not rated to be buried. If it is, your butt connectors are probably not water proof. Expect GFI trips the next time it rains.

Again what kind of pump is this. The only types of pump I know of that are used in conjunction with a septic system would a sewage ejection pump or an air pump that is used in an oxgenation system.
A sewage ejection pump would be used in a pit some where if your septic tank is above the sewer line in your house.

The air pump, which it sounds like you have, may be under ground but should be in some kind of enclosure and accessible. After all these things do need to serviced at times.

Suggest you find the pump and replace the entire cord and put it in some kind of conduit to protect from the landscaper.
