How to measure and hang storm doors
I recently purchased a storm door from Lowe's and it was too long and too narrow. I being so ignorant of such matters thought they all were the same height. Now I'm not sure where to measure my door. I already had the old door hauled away. They are so heavy too, how do you hold it up while installing?

Two people if its too much for you to do alone...

Measurements are generally made INSIDE the door frame opening for width and height.

Also make a note which side the door is hinged on and which direction it opens towards.

Measurement depends on whether you have a hidden hinge or an exposed piano hinge. Exterior doors are either 36 or 32" and normally 80". Most people hang the door so the storm door handle is on the opposite side of the house door handle. Almost all home doors swing in, opposed to commercial occupancies where the doors are required to swing out. The easiest storm door to hang is the one with the piano hinge because you can set the door into the opening, shim it to be square and then directly screw to door to the brick mold or other style door trim. Hope you were able to return the door!
