So basically you are asking for every detail regarding this installation, electric and gas?
The reason the instructions are not "idiot proof" is because they figure the installer has at least the basic understanding of an installation like this and also knows the codes involved.
The instructions are a technical installation guide, not a teaching guide.

My only suggesting is to get a few quotes from local electricians to see what it will cost you to have this done.
The feeder can be cable inside the house, but the controls must be in conduit and separate from the feeder. You'll need six wires plus a ground for the control wiring so using a cable is out of the question. More if you plan on using the load shedding function.
The breaker on the unit serves as the means of disconnect.

On page five of the manual for this unit clearly states:

Only qualified electricians or contractors should attempt such installations, which must comply strictly with applicable codes, standards and regulations.

Stan DID offer advice to your questions in his answer here:

The feeder can be cable inside the house, but the controls must be in conduit and separate from the feeder. You'll need six wires plus a ground for the control wiring so using a cable is out of the question. More if you plan on using the load shedding function. The breaker on the unit serves as the means of disconnect.
So, your questions have been answered.

Regarding the gas line, you need to post over at the Plumbing forum, as us electricians have no knowledge of gas lines.

If you have any other specific electrical questions, please get back with them.

Clerks in stores should not give any advice unless they have the proper license for that trade.

Actually I have wired many of these gensets, and no, I will not remain silent, your highness.

Passing an inspection in NYS is not that hard in many areas, regardless of how the job is done.
