NBC censors out moving tribute from Opening Day Ceremony
NBC decided to censor this segment out of the American coverage of the opening day ceremony . It is a tribute to the victims of the 7/7 terrorism attack on London .They thought a pretaped interview with Michael Phelps was more compelling t.v.
So for Americans who did not get a chance to view it... you decide .
Here's The Opening Ceremony Tribute To Terrorism Victims NBC Doesn't Want You To See

Having been there and done that in other events of the past, of course the US censors a lot of our news.

Actually this proves a free press. It means that NBC made a decision about what they felt was appropriate for THEIR audience. This was NBC's decision to make so they exercised it. It has nothing to to do with censorship.
I'm not going to argue whether they made a good decision or not, but I will argue that this was, in fact, an exercise of freedom of the press.

Yes it was... this is twice today that I've seen this framed as government censorship .It is not . I was editorializing that it was a poor choice by NBC . The only way this would be government censorship was if NBC was the official mouthpiece of the government.

Hello:
Yeah.. I HATE NBC because they didn't show enough badminton. They put on a bunch of singing swimmers instead. They should show EVERYTHING. Anything less is censorship..

This was the opening ceremony. There was nothing else going on. They just decided an interview with the has been Phelps was more compelling than showing anything that had a hint of religion.

Do you think any other country's coverage is any different? NBC has many more US participants to showcase. But I doubt if any other country does it any differently.

Don't want to be ungracious Karma but what exactly are the Canadians doing? Ice hockey, etc comes later in the year. Look there is an idea expressed here abouts that because america has a greater number of participants, then this squeezes out news of other countries participation and achievements, Horse Feathers and other fables, How oneeyed can you get. About as oneeyed as calling an event in which one country participates a world series? I heard somewhere that there are a greater number of channels over there but of course the olympic coverage must be restricted to the select few there as everywhereelse
And Tom great news Kiwi got some coverage, even here we don't hear much about them

We've learned to put up with the US. Canada has a good contingent at the summer olympics, we like to see how they do, a few are from right near where I live, my daughter met an olympian in her sport just two months ago. We're a four season country, people just hear about hockey the most I guess.

The truth is that the coverage has been extensive. NBC has at least 3 channels I can access ;and as Scott has pointed out ,we can see what we want on the internet .
I don't like the fact that with instant news we learn the results of event hours before we see them on tape delay.
But the one thing we were not allowed to see was this one 10 minute segment of the opening ceremony. Have not heard a good reason why NBC thought an interview with Phelps was more compelling ;or why they decided to edit that out instead of workers rolling up sod .

Does NBC need to give you a good reason for every segment they do not air?

Really Clete? You may get excited over watching the Palau basketball team or the New Zealand female shot putters but I enjoyed watching Ryan Lochte and our star beach volleyball team of Kerry Walsh and Misty May-Treanor.
P.S. No more bikini tops in beach volleyball to accommodate religious beliefs? Really? It's BEACH volleyball.

Not me ;the only reason I watch NBC is for their sports coverage. I already know why they didn't ;they would've had to listen to someone singing a Christian hymn. They are not fooling anyone .
Even Bob Costas punked out . He was going to give a moment silence for the Israeli athletes murdered 40 years ago at the Munich Olympics ;something the cowardly IOC refused to do too.

Hello:
On the politics board, I called Sara Palin a crook. Admin changed it to "alleged" WITHOUT my permission, citing fears of a lawsuit.
If I write something libelous, could this website be sued? If so (and I believe it's so), should admin censor our work so that their butts are covered?...
Moving out before 30-day notice?
