Good day,
I have a 12 yr old Silverfox breed female dog that was sick since a week ago. Initially it is just her appetite that has decreased but the third day she does not want to eat at all (she hardly drink water since then). We bring her to a local Vet near our hse and they examined and said her liver, kidney and heart wasn't functioning well and the readings are high. They gave her some antibiotics and vitamins to replenish since she's not eating. But the next day she started to vomit and we suspect it was due to the antibiotics that she has taken with empty stomach so we stop it and wait for a day. She continues to vomit and we had to again bring to the vet and they gave her some med to relieve her stomach (they said it was gastric). Also, throughout the days she did not defecate and pee very,very little. We did not being her back to the vet until 6th day when she suddenly started to pee like normal and defecate a lot and it continued for the next day. Things seem to be a bit better but she still doesn't eat and drink very little water. Today (7th day) we have put the saline drip for her as we feared that she might be experiencing dehydration after a week of not eating and drink little water (we went back to the vet for the saline drip). She seemed to wag her tail faster this evening but still couldn't eat and vomited a little. From her eyes it doesn't seemed that she is seriously ill or waiting for her time to come but we just don't know how to help her and the local vet doesn't seemed able to diagnose her problem. She is so weak now that she can't even raise up or walk to the bushes to pee. She just pee on where she lay down.

At 12, she is possibly reaching the end of her life, when multiple organs shut down, and to diagnose would cost into the high thousands. It isn't always easy to tell what dogs are going through by the look in their eyes or their wag. They don't even cry out in pain much of the time. You have some tough decisions to make. Go to a bigger vet group with more testing abilities. Wait. Put her down. I'd wait a few more days at least, and see if you can entice her with some home made chicken or beef broth, scrambled egg, and senior canned dog food. I wonder if her bowel was obstructed for a while and there's some hope.

Dear Alex,
God knows how hard it is for me to write this note, We want to do everything we can to help our Babies, this his how I call my pets.
My dog a German Short-hair pointer who lived to be 19 an 1/2 years old had the same symptoms. My husband found an unusual lump after pulping him on the stomach, we rushed again to the vet because a couple of month before this happened; he had liver test blood test etc... every thing was normal.
We rushed to the vet and we asked to see if it was a cancer sure enough it was positive.
I don't want you to think that I am telling you that your dog has the same thing, I just want you to know that it is a possibility.
My dog your dog any dog who does not eat anymore is trying to tell you something he is 12 years old and it is not without tears that I am writing this note.
Please write back to me and keep in touch, we can ease their pain as much and we can thank them for all the love happiness and joy they gave us.
Hope it is not coming to that.
I will pray for him with all my heart.

I am saddened to read your story, both for you and your pet.
By stating that her readings are high I am assuming that they did some blood work to check the kidney and liver function, and asses her heart the good old fashioned way by listening to the rate, rhythm and any abnormalities.
The thing that would make treating the kidney and liver disease is the fact that in order to do so she would need continuous IV fluids which could risk the heart being overworked trying to handle the extra fluid. And if the organ failure is significant, at best you could by her a little time. I can't know that for sure, that is just what I am gathering from your post.
So I can see where your vet and yourself are in a particularly tough spot.
The tail wagging and feeling a little better after the fluids is likely only temporary, they feel initially better after being rehydrated for about 24 hours, but will then start waning again.
So although it looks like a hopeful sign, try not to read too much into it.
I apologize if that sounds crass, it is not meant to be.
There is always more testing that CAN be done if you choose to do so, ask for a referral to a specialty hospital if you think you want to do that.
But it seems that your vet has pretty much hit on a diagnosis of multi system organ failure.
Of course you can pursue further answers as to the whys, and you know your pet better than anyone.
It sounds as if you need to consider her quality of life at this point and decide which road to take.
