I recently had a falling out with a man friend and I said we would leave our relationship alone for a while to chill out. He text me several weeks later saying would I please talk next time?? I text him back I did want to talk. He then text me and I realized he was talking about something entirely different and he told me he had been getting phone calls with an unknown number from someone and thought it might be me. There was no way I would phone someone and not speak so I told him it was not me and he said sorry for accusing me.

I somehow thought this was a cry for attention as we had agreed not to see each other for a while. We did however meet after that as he said he wanted to talk, and then while we were talking and it was getting a bit heated he started mentioning the phone calls again in an accusing manner saying he had found out that they were coming from some place in the town where I live. He obviously wanted to talk to me and made up the story about the calls or he was getting calls and obviously wanted it to be me so why then could he not talk things out with me? I don't understand how some mens minds work. Advice anyone?

Sure it's possible he invented the calls as an excuse to talk with you. I would tell him that if he brings it up again it will be the last. And mean it.

I think many people invent little lies once in a while, but this is a little too creepy and serious, and would make me think about breaking up with him for good if he won't let it drop. Maybe delivering the ultimatum is what he needs to know you aren't the one calling (if he really is getting calls).
Why hasn't he shown you the history of the calls on his phone and where they are coming from, I wonder...

Yes he scrolled down his phone in front of me and there was one call, but he said he was getting them twice a day. He said he found out who the unknown number was but I since found out you cannot do this anyway. I did deliver an ultimatum and told him to go away and think about things for a while. We fall out but he always comes back. I thought he had someone else but it seems not or else he would not want me any more I suppose.

You end the games by stopping the contact. Its highly plausible that he is being harassed, and thinks its you, or a friend of yours.
