Engine light 96 Honda Accord ex
I have a engine light bugging for some time and I've everything beside get rid of the car to get the light to go out. I replaced the distributor (Honda), wires (NGK), spark plugs (NGK) and EGR valve and the dianostic still reads [cylinder 2 and 4 misfire, distributor fail, and computer misfire]. What is actually wrong with the Ignition system, possible o2 sensor, mapp sensor? I hope you can help me with this one because it has been a costly light to turn off. And if this helps you to help me @ certain rpms, mph the engine light blinks until I change RPM

Did you replace the igniter and coil, when you replaced the distributor? If not, test/replace them. Autozone will test these components for free.

    1. Have you checked all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter? Here's how to do it:

    https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-t...tml#post252145

    2. Have you performed the K-Test on your ECM? Read section A on how to do it:

    https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-t...ics-46563.html

Tell me what voltage you recorded.
    3. Is your distributor housing made by Honda or is it an aftermarket? Some site members have had problems with aftermarket distributors.
    4. Did you reset your ECM?

    What engine do you have?

The voltage reads 4.9 (wires off key position on), 4.9 (wires on key position back probe), 4.9 (varing with rpms) (wires on engine running back probe) what do think should I replace the map sensor? The distributor body is Honda (new), distributor guts is Honda(new). And yes I reset the ECM almost everything time I change something out dealing w/ cel. The engine is a f22b1

This is a tough one to figure out from afar!

    1. Test all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.
    2. Remove and clean the main ECM ground on the thermostat housing.
    3. Check spark plugs going to cylinders 2 and 4. Apply silicone dielectric grease to spring electrodes going to the spark plugs; do same to plug wires going into distributor cap.
    4. Remove and test igniter and coil, even though they are new. Be sure to apply silicone grease to the back of the igniter upon reinstallation.

Your ECM appears fine, as does everything else on the surface. The diagnostic, however, seems to indict either the spark plugs (or wires), going to cylinders 2 and 4, or the igniter and coil, even though everything is new. Review everything carefully, paying special attention to the items highlighted. Something very unusual is going on here; i.e. it appears you may have a problem with the components in a new Honda distributor. If this proves true, it will be a first for me. I have seen a number of instances of bad aftermarket distributors.

Exactly what code no. was thrown?

It's been over a month since my last log in and the problem presist. I changed the map sensor on the car (gut intinct) and it did absolutely nothing. I even went as far as checking the voltage on the injector electrical connecters on all four cylinders. I really want this problem resolved. The codes that are thrown are as follows: 72 missfire cylinder #2, and 74 missfire cylinder #4. Is there anything else I may be able to do besides take the bulb out. The car runs fine actually better now that I upgrade the fuel (octane) that I use. If you (TXGreasemonkey) or anybody else out there has this similar problem and had it solved.

Sometimes you have to go back to basics. Do a compression check, report back, and if you really feel like turning some more wrenches, swap the injectors to the opposite cylinders to see if the code follows like 71 & 73 next time.
