I don't understand how rap/hiphop counts as music?
So, this is JUST my opinion. But I don't see how rap/hiphop is music. About 80% of it these days is simply computer/electronically generated crap with someone mumbling lyrics about sex, drugs, guns, violence etc..
I don't like how a lot of rap is about mistreating women, and shooting cops, selling drugs. True, some of them may have grew up around these types of things. But wouldn't they want to move on from that stage of their lives? I especially hate Lil Wayne. I don't think he's some kind of folk hero like people make him out to be.

And my parents did not think the Beatles or Black Sabboth was music, they thought it was noise created by Satan.

My mother really didn't want me to watch American Bandstand and played classical music on the stereo instead.

I'm not a fan of that new dubstep stuff. My son loves it.

I'm sure that when my son has kids of his own they'll come out with something he hates as well.

Music is personal. You may not like it, or understand it, but that doesn't mean it isn't music. It just means that it's not your taste. You don't have to like it, but you do have accept that others do.

Solution. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. :)

Haha! You all had great answers. And I suppose you're right, it is music. But I don't like it. Haha.
I personally like older bands, like the Who, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Spencer Davis Group, Eric Clapton, etc.. You name it. All of those bands are from my dad's generation (the baby boomers). It's funny, because my dad actually works for a radio station that plays a lot of rap/hiphop and he doesn't listen to that music. He sometimes asks me if I know of the singers they play on his station, and I honestly don't know about 90% of them. Haha! I also forgot to mention, I love Nirvana.
